SoAmpli: Facebook Sharing Update 31.07.2018

Starting from 1st August 2018, Facebook is making changes to their permission rights. This will not only affect SoAmpli, but all third-party content sharing tools that integrate with Facebook. This is another step Facebook is taking to tackle "fake news" on their platform.

In the past, apps like SoAmpli have been able to publish on behalf of their users but in the future, we need to redirect the user to complete the share in the sharing window provided by Facebook itself.

As Facebook updates their interface, these changes might cause instability in the SoAmpli Facebook sharing function, and affect analytics in SoAmpli.

The three most important function changes in SoAmpli as a result of Facebook's changes will be:

  • You can share to official Facebook company pages as normal through SoAmpli

  • You can no longer share to your personal Facebook profile in SoAmpli using the normal functionality. Facebook will become a separate button

  • You can no longer schedule posts to your personal Facebook pages

  • The changes Facebook are making to permission may affect the analytics in SoAmpli

But there is good news! The updated share flow allows users to share to Facebook via SoAmpli with more functionalities!

You will now be able to:

  • Tag people in your Facebook posts within SoAmpli

  • Share your location in your Facebook posts from SoAmpli

  • Select who sees your post on Facebook from SoAmpli (friends, public etc.)

  • Share to a group, or in a private message

Introducing the new Facebook sharing flow in SoAmpli

1) The SoAmpli share button will split in two. The "share" button will allow you to share as you would normally to Twitter and LinkedIn. We will then have a separate button to share to Facebook as shown below:

As you can see below, clicking share works as normal but not for Facebook:

2) When you click on the Facebook icon, a separate window will appear:

You can add your own comment, tag people, share your location etc. And if you want to, you can remove caption text:

3) Once shared to Facebook, the post will look like this:

4)  When you add your own text (e.g if you have the preview text and then your own message), the post will look like this:
